A Week Removed

The stories are correct, just don't go. Don't think about. Stick with the trout rivers, 5wts, rafts and
wading, cause once it is on your brain, you are ready to get back. Just a week removed from our trip to the Deschutes and we are figuring out our next trip to chase more steelhead. The stakes don't have to grow , but they will. Maybe or probably another trip to the OP this winter.
Maybe if the banker says we can muster our nickels together, maybe the Dean this next year.
So wish we still has this camp view this week and not the desk chair and computer screen filled with
spreadsheet I am currently filing through for 2016 budgeting. A week removed , I sure miss it.

Fishing Sunset

Another day on the ditch and another beautiful sunset to send us away. Fall is beginning, days are shortening and the browns are chasing streamers much more aggressively.

Swingers Trip

Well a fish of a thousand casts, and it almost lived up too it's name.
Thanks to Jeff Hickman and his great staff for treating Mary and I to fantastic trip on
the Deschutes River. Yet another river in the Pacific Northwest that does not and did not disappoint.
Jeff, along with his right hand guide Barrett were the consummate professionals, and excellent
coach and teachers and helping Mary and I learn the beginning points of spey casting and catching.
If your thinking of a trip out to the Deschutes, book early and call Jeff Hickman with Fish the Swing.
Mark, our camp chef for the four days on the river, would prepare a gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner each day that would blow your mind. Here a little fresh caught hatchery steelhead over charizo, but we also had Steelhead Cakes, Center Cut Pork Chops, fresh guacamole with pico de galo, garlic chicken skewers, and the list goes on. Did I mention dessert.
Here Ms. Floatfisher works one of the evening slicks as the sun starts to wane.
The golden hill sides of Deschutes River valley, mule deer, bighorn sheep abound the valley.

Mary gets the "golf" clap for a well presented 100' cast on the mark from guide Barrett.
Kitchen prep on the river, not much is missing, no one went hungry, Fresh press coffee, Hot showers,
wow, on a river trip, talk about spoiled.
A lovely evening view.

The bank drops off quickly and the wading can be a bit tricky in area's , only went swimming one time, Damn Goat Head Spikes didn't work for shit.
Barrett and Jeff were the masters of the jet sled and know the river and rapids like the back of their hands, especially in the dark. Such a cool ride at 30 miles and hour, blast up and down a rapid.
Barrett selecting out a new tube fly.
Our other great host of the trip and organizer was Louis Cahill- of the blog Gink and Gasoline. Was a pleasure to spend time talking fishing, travel and photography with an extremely talented person like Louis. We had the opportunity to fish with Louis for a couple of days.
The first caught will never be forgotten.

Carpslam

Once again we were in town on a Saturday, when the Denver Trout Unlimited Chapter was holding their annual CarpSlam on the South Platte River in downtown Denver.
Always a pretty cool event to witness, as these anglers , who are paired up with
with some of the states great guides, get out and tangle with the beasts of the South Platte.
Sometimes dodging the submerged shopping carts, tires, dirty syringes and countless other items
one might find, to fight some truly beautiful fish.

Along with the Carp, trout , walleye and other various fish are often caught.

One thing a bunch of fisherman know how to do is have a little party and listen to little music.
So you guessed it , The CarpSlam AfterParty is alway a good time, a couple of bucks to a good cause gets you all the free craft beer or wine you can drink, a silent auction to knock your socks off, donated by some great folks in the Denver community.

Never to disappoint, we supported the silent auction by winning a few of the items.
We have a couple more pieces of Fishpond luggage and the Titan Rod vault, all at a steal.
Thanks for a great time.

If you have never been, reserve a spot and fish for some carp next year, or at least get out
to the after party. Cheers...........

Time

It is that time of the year to start thinking of changing tactics. Time to break out the big sticks, time to break out the big boxes of articulated flies that move water and fish in the morning and evenings.
Time to get serious about fishing again.
Fall fishing season is here...
Its just Time

Thursdays Flies

Well, next Thursday's flies because we hope to be knee deep into some summer steel.
We are say night "Hail Steel" prayers as we kneel bed side. We hail to the almighty god of the two hander, hoping that he or she bestow good luck upon us only to land one or two on our quest.

Hail to Steel.... Here we come again...

Mark Kroos

A little musical delight from Mark Kroos, strumming the ole' 2 neck, and playing a solo
rendition of "dueling banjos". This cat is one talented musician, as you will see at about
a 1:10 in. He also does a pretty cool Purple Haze / Voodoo Chile rendition.
Check him on his Facebook page.

Ditch Pics

A very busy Labor Day Weekend, but never  too busy to wet a line and catch a couple
brown fish and cutty rainbrowns, as the great Hank Patterson would say, Water is dropping slowly and is Gunnison green as we like to refer to is in Colorado. Fish are a little more selective, but still very , willing.

We all like a chubby the fish were especially liking the Royal Chubby this
weekend. Add a cdc pheasant tail to mix and you have the perfect concoction to catch
many fish. We did.....

Dave Hall - Artist

 " The Valley "

" Moving Water "

I have seen and followed the work of Dave Hall, as I love beautiful landscape artists and their work. A self taught artist, Dave Hall's peaceful and ethereal landscapes can be found in several western galleries located in Bozeman and Jackson Hole. His work is inspired by the Missouri River headwaters country of southwestern Montana. Dave spends his time between Utah and Ennis, Montana and has a beautiful book out,  Moving Water: An Artist Reflection on Fly Fishing and Friendship.
