Techniques- " High Water Nymphing on the Missouri River- Courtesy of Heathunters Flyshop

Memorial Weekend Memories

As all holidays should be spent, with family or great friends. We
has the opportunity to enjoy the river with great friends on a lovely
13 mile float. Water levels were optimal and weather was terrific. The
result was a wonderful 6 hours on the river for the day. Several great
stops for lunch and a cocktail. All was good.
Neat chunk of drift wood

Could we Float n Fish this weekend again?

Could we squeak in another weekend in of floating and fishing,
it is looking like we could possibly get in a day or two. This
would be most excellent, as I had only planned on cleaning the
boat, BBQ'ing and relaxing. It would be nice to add to the
river miles.

Another floatable weekend- No Runoff

Because of the mild mid-week weather in the area, we
were treated on yet another weekend of floatable water.
Although the flows were at about 900 cfs. or so, the fish
were still feeding decent. The edges had clarity to 30-36",
and there was more river to float.

A nice day on the river, sporting some tiedie! My lucky
fishing shirt.

Mary ran the braids without hanging up, Hah!

Headhunter Flyshop / The Missouri

We had the opportunity to make an early trip to the Missouri River 45 day earlier than expected, and other than the rain, wind and occasional hail, it treated us with great hospitality. We had the opportunity to visit the infamous "Headhunter Flyshop and Izzacks". We where not disappointed. The shop had everything and more a junkie could need and more. We managed to spend a few bucks too, buying items  we just had to have!! After a cold, rainy day of fishing, the bar at Izzacks treated me to several well deserved Glenlevets. Oh, where they good. And the food was out of this world too.

I am looking forward to spend three more days in July, too enjoy more of the fishing and more atmosphere at Izzack's. Thanks to all at Headhunters for treating us great and listing us on the blog roll.
We look forward to fishing with you in July

Streamer Day #2- Even better Saturday.

Sunday began with extremely low cloud layer and cool damp conditions. For a second day streamer fisherman, I thought I should give it another try. I think I could be hooked. We only did a short float, but the fish were on a serious feed. Nice to see the chase and capture of the fly. Successful catch.

Damn now I will have to learn to tie streamers, even more materials. Damn the luck.

A nice little Rky. Mtn Bighorn

Weapons of the weekend.

The elusive Arkansas sucker, fairly caught, I might add.

Streamer Day

Another great day on the river. Today was a milestone day for me as I made myself fish almost the entire day with a streamer. Once the cloud covered the sunny blue sky, the bite was on fast and furious. It seems as though I had a fish chasing the streamer every third cast or better. I missed many, until I switched to a streamer with the hook in the tail. Then it was game on! It was nice as I finally got the proper twitch down, and there where flashes, splashes and takes galore. Arm will be sore tonight!

Fishing the Missouri River

Had the opportunity to fish the mighty "Mo" yesterday and all I can say wow. Although we fished in a 12 hour straight rain/drizzle mixed with wind, the fishing was pretty damned good. The water was raised a 1000 Cfs while we were on the river, which did not alter the fishing too much. It appeared to stir up more food for the large Brown fish and rainbow fish. Fly of choice was the almighty worm.

I can not believe the size of fish that we caught, the first few fish seemed to average 17-20". And man do they fight. Wish I could post a little fish porn, but have not figured out the technology to do it off the IPad. More fish to catch today, maybe the Madison, not sure with the rain yesterday.

Caddis Pupa

Caddis On the Arkansas River

Late April and May mean caddis on the Arkansas River. Oh what a lovely time, but Oh the hoards
of people to contend with.  Fish taking nymphs and pupa in the morning, double dry rigs in the
afternoon. Good Time, Good Times. Get out and fish before the water comes up, and get too difficult to wade.

Graphic Caddis takes another.

Next Stop on the Fishing Express

The next in the line of adventures for Brian & Mary's Excellent Adventure's is Twin Bridges, MT. Hoping the fish gods will cooperate again for more fabulous fishing on some of Montana's fine trout ditches.

Get your fish on!

Rainbow of the Day

Great picture of this pretty rainbow that was caught yesterday. I especially like the beautiful coloring on the gill plate, spectacular. As you can see the fish fell to
the wonderful green wire prince, trailed by a two bit hooker.

May 1st - 6" of New Snow? How Nice

May Day ushered in 6" of fresh heavy wet snow, what at great sight to see down here, has been a touch dry. Needed this moisture to take down the fire danger. In addition, it provided so terrific fish and great photo opportunities. In addition, it sent some fisherman home, cause they are fair weathered!

Getting ready for the day, boat a little full of snow.

First fish of the day on the first cast, always a nice start. It continued all the way down the river.

Pretty river shot.

Damn, I hate when I forget to put my boots away at night.... Frozen again.

OH Christmas Tree, OH Christmas Tree
