Streamers That Work

As you can see from the beat up heads these were the dirty half dozen that pounded some fish
this weekend. With the more stained water on Saturday, streamers of color were the ticket.
Love to see feathers, as well as foam and rubber hanging out of brown and rainbow mouths.
Faceful of Feathers!!! Get sum.

Two Different Days- Ms. Floatfisher Prevails

Had the opportunity to spend yet another weekend on the river, floating and fishing was we
normally do. Really needing a solid weekend to good fishing to relieve the tension from work and not
feeling well earlier in the week, I was do, right.... Wrong. Yes, I fished, I moved fish, lots of fish, but I
could not hook and land a fish to save my life.  As the second picture indicates, I spent a lot of tim
re-rigging, untangling and cursing.

Ms. Floatfisher kicked my tail, she hooked and landed every fish that came close to here nymph and
streamer. She was on fire. Was great to see her ripping lips on streamers. The fish were aggressively
slamming them.

Photo of the Day- Scene's from Nature

Like a bad Far Side cartoon, sometimes the reality of rough times in nature hit home.
This deer did not quite make to its final destination.  This made for quite a sight on a recent
float trip.

Ready for Summer- "FOAM"

Are you ready for summer, or just maybe the fish to start keying in on FOAM/ Rubber.
Love to see the sight of rubber legs hanging from a fishes mouth.

Let's Get it ON! Caddis Hatch is in full swing.

The Arkansas River Caddis Hatch is underway. Hordes of fisherman will blanket the stretches of river in hopes of catching the hatch. Many, not knowing how to fish a freestone river will go away disappointed and catching the "numbers" everyone comes to the river for.  many think it is fish after fish, during the hatch. It can be, but you have to know how to fish the daily cycle and look for the right water.

Many will try and chase the main upriver migration, I like to hang back and pickup all the table scraps.
You are not overwhelmed with as many people ( whom will never be back to this river, till next year) fighting for there spot on the river.

These are a few of my favorite patterns.

My Flyshop Guru- Lucas

Our Flyshop guru sells us lots of thing we need and don't really need. Here, he is
demonstrating his customer service skills by telling a "big fish" story to Ms. Floatfisher.
She can hardly contain herself. Lucas also rows a mean boat. I heard he guides his clients
to good size suckers and some trout.

"Where the Yellowstone Goes"

The world premier of "Where the Yellowstone Goes" is coming
to a town near you. As for Colorado, that town is Boulder and
May 24th is the date. The film appears to be well done. Can't wait
to see the full version.

Scene's from Weekend-

Took the weekend off to recharge the batteries and rest. That did not mean we were not
present on the river. Still had to capture the sights. Our local guide service was conducting
rowing lessons with a group of students so this provided for some adventurous photos.
Who said guiding was easy, especially when teaching new rowers.  My buddy Larry, going for
a ride, while the students were focused straight forward.

 A path less traveled.

Donations

No photo of the day, no other witty pictures,  just working on our newest donation to the Salida Chapter of  Trout Unlimited. Happy to be able to donate a couple of great "in my opinion" photos of our fishing escapades over the last year. Photo's should be back from the printer, hopefully I can share before giving away.

If you don't , you should, give some time, money or donations to help preserve our future.

Post Card View- Photo of the Day

The scenery that mother nature provides is simply stunning. Everytime you think you have perfect
shot, another is around the corner. That is why you must keep your ass on the river and enjoy.

Easter Weekend Festivites-

Had the opportunity to float and fish with our great friends
Gerry and Jeff over the spectacular Easter weekend. Water levels
went way down due, diminishing snow pack and warm temperatures, making for a lovely technical, and great paced float.

Early morning Easter drive treated us to wonderful sight of
turkeys and elk. What a great way to start the day.

Midges, BWO and Great Weather

Colorado has treated us to yet another glorious weekend of weather and fishing. With the low flows
currently, the midge and BWO hatch is coming off like clockwork each day. Had the opportunity
to wet a line, smack the oars and throw a couple of griffith gnats and parachute adams with
great success.
Ever feel like someone is watching you out there?
