High Desert Fly Fishing from waybackwhenpictures on Vimeo.
Takes me back 15 years, when Ms. Floatfisher and I lived down in the high desert in did some of the
same flyfishing. Although it has it's natural beauty, there is just something about the Rocky Mountains.
John Denver was not all wrong. Enjoy your Baileys and coffee with a Wednesday Floatfisher Cinema.

Weekend Follies

When on the ditch, it is not always about me or the Ms.. I love to see others having a great time and catching fish. Came across these anglers enjoying their Saturday floating along, laughing and giving each other grief for missed fish. What we all do best.
Beautiful view of the Collegiate Peaks.
 In the willows, looking downstream.

More Views from the Ditch

A mixture of weather yesterday while out on the ditch. Sights are still very beautiful as we approach May. Lot of snow and melt yet to come out of the hills. I think we will have one more good week of low water flows before all hell breaks loose. Really surprised how few fisherman were out, and scared of a little off-colored medium high water. These are only our summer time flows right now.

Must be that most folks cannot fish freestones rivers? Just a solid guess. Tailwater fisheries have spoiled and tainted their fishing. Much easier to stand in one place and work a run or riffle to death, where the fish don't spook.

Sorry for the morning rant, just few things on the mind.

Three of my Favorites

There is no sense in re inventing all new patterns all the time when there are
great patterns out there already. Some new or newer, and some old standbys never to be without.
Day in and day out, these are proven to take fish in the west.

Happy Easter

Careful what you ask for, the wrong Easter bunny just might visit you. Alway great spend sunrise Easter Sunday on the ditch with your loved on. After the ceremonial prayer at the boat launch, it was
on to another fine day of fishing. The only difference, I actually had to pull my weight and row today.
Damn the luck.
The Easter Bunny hid a little something special in Mary's basket this morning. It was just the
mojo to get the fish feeding.

One of the many victims that fell to a well drifted purple haze.
Oh yes, they have been moving water, to make room in the reservoirs, the river has come up over 230 cfs or so in the past two day, little off color in sections of the river, perfect to throw the Dirty Hippy or Sculpzilla. Bam!!!!

Baetis Eater

Time to get back on the ditch after the week off to take care of family matters. Figure most will be attending to Easter chores on Sunday so the river will be empty. Saturday, may be different  but we know a few secret spot the guides like to hit, we'll hit them first and move on, they will probably never knew we were there.  Even have a couple new spots I want to throw at.

Just because I have not been tying lately, mainly because it is now fishing season. Thought I would throw in a cool little foam pattern from the team at DeltaTroutForce. Minimal materials, durable, and easy. Check it out. Plus I like some tunes with the tying videos.

Tree's

Spring is in the air, moisture in the ground, warmth in the air, time for things to start turning a lovely
shade of green. Especially the aspens, and the grasses along the river.

"Heads or Tails"- Fly Fishing Montana Spring Creeks by Todd Moen

Put out several years ago, Todd's wonderful work never gets old to watch. Who know's , I might have even posted this back when it came out. I recently came across this fine video short again and had to share. Wow, what great footage. Definitely a great video to watch with a little Bailey's and coffee to start the morning. Just to remind you that we should be fishing today.

Quote of the Day

"I go fishing not to find myself but to lose myself "  Joseph Monniger

Caddis Tease………

Just a few more degree's on the thermometer and we should start to see a few of these fella's flittering
around the skies. Depending on your local the temps. are hovering between 47-50, but that can depend
on the weather pattern that in the area. With another forecasted for tomorrow and Thursday it might stall it down a little. On the upside, blue wings will be in full force are ready to eat , even better.

Just a tease to get you going. Caddis Tease…….

On Guard - Floatfisher on the River

Floatfisher survey's the scene on the river.

Reflection Run on RIver X

Those who fish it will recognize it, those who don't are missing out and need to find it.
What a great river, filled with many large rainbow, when you think it would be brown heaven.
This day it was picture perfect. Reflection Run was sight to behold.

"Electric Caddis"

Bighorn Canyon

With a pending funeral, our fishing was cut short this weekend to make some travel plans. However,
our breakfast drive did not disappoint this morning. The Rocky Mountain sheep were out in force,
in all the usual spots, with a sunny warm morning the want to graze and sun , just like the human version. The rocks in the Bighorn Canyon were lit you this morning and beautiful

One of our photogenic friends posing for their moment of glory on Floatfisher.
Around the bend was another herd on this rocky outcrop. Sure made for a nice setting. Just a touch
too far away.

To the Boat

Another nice day on the ditch, typical April day in Colorado, day starts with sunshine
and blue skies, ends with blizzard and snow. Fish were feeding nicely throughout the day, not fast
and furious but steady. many fish to the hand and net.

Fished a section of river we had not floated in a year or so, although nice, because there were no other boats, I know why I like the other sections better. Still beautiful with snow capped mountains surrounded by bright blue skies, got to enjoy everyday on the ditch.

I quite counting at 200 spots. It is incredible how many tiny beautiful spots can be on the tail.
Just love how every tail is different and distinct. What great DNA.

Spring Time in the Rockies

Does not get any better than this. This was the view from yesterday's drive back from the river. The Floatfisher fleet of boats was cleaned and prepped for the upcoming fishing spring and summer, boats were washed, 303'd, new straps, oar shafts and accessories. Time for another few thousand miles of fishing and rowing.

We have a very busy couple of months ahead here at Floatfisher, stay tuned.

Put Down the F#$@*%& Seat

Your wife has told you many times to put down the "F"-ing seat, this would teach you a valuable lesson wouldn't . Your warm ass sticking too this ice cold seat will not be pleasant. A good portion of
the year this outdoor shitter on the Smith River is one of the most beautiful sights, on this day, it still was, just a little chilly.
