Stressing the Method

Putting the Sage Method through the rigors on very large fish. It crazy that these fish will bend these rods right into the cork time after time. It did finally give out as it will be sent back to sage for repair
as it snapped in the butt section finally. What a great problem to have! Breaking rods on large fish.

Missouri River Mist

Missouri River Mist
Great photo taken this past weekend while floating the canyon section. The heavy fog along
the entire river corridor treated us for fantastic photo opportunities. We experienced it all as the streamer
fishing was decent, nymphing was good as usual, and dry fly fishing, well superb, and I would
not have guessed it, Bonus……

What a great year of fishing, more to come.

A New Addition To the Floatfisher Family

Wow, what an incredibly long week that included picking up our new Floatfisher "edition" Adipose Flow Skiff. We beelined up to Helena on Friday to pick it up and give it a quick row down the Missouri with out great friend and guid Eric Mondragon.

Ms. Floatfisher signs the Adipose wall of fame, saved for those blow there kids inheritance on toys, in our case, sheer necessities.

Saturday morning treated us to unbelievable photographic sights, as we received rain over night creating a layer of intense fog that did not burn off till 9:00 or so. It was very eerie fishing in the dark and fog getting large tugs on streamers.

Well, not a bad way break in the boat with a streamer caught  "toad" in beautiful spawning colors.
This certainly was the highlight of my day.
We round the corner after catching the fish above this peak was clearing the fog. Just another reason, you need to get out and enjoy the water, you never know way you will see.
Stunning.

Ms. Floatfisher

It seem she is the queen of the family , and mistress of the large fish lately. Another  nice fish to add to the photo archive. The Klickitat River in Washington was a gracious host to us on our recent trip.
Could a be frequent stop on our fishing itinerary.

October Steel

Damn these things are addicting! I am glad I waited a while to start fishing for them, or I might
have just been a junkie like all the others in the PNW, the fight, tug , scream of the reel is incredible.
The sheer power of these beautiful creatures is second to none. It will keep me coming back for more.

Photo of the Day- "An Eye on Things"

A recent streamer fishing episode provided this great foto of our weary prey we seek on the weekend
hunt. He was hunkered underneath the perfectly manicured undercut bank, no one, would find him
with out the right enticing hunk of fur and feather.

Ye Olde Soft Hackle

As the late fishing season starts to slow, the torrid pace of fishing every week has caught up with Floatfisher, a pre Halloween cold/ flu has got a nasty grip on the household. Downtime with watching a little Packers Football, maybe cleaning off the tying bench in preparation of the upcoming winter season and just maybe the hope that a road trip to Montana is order next weekend to pickup the new ride.! We will hope.

"TRES"

"TRES"
Just about time to clean off the dusty old bench, and start developing some new patterns
for the new season, fill the empty voids in the box for the proven patterns, and develop and new organization system for the raft and new drift boat. Need to have something nice and simple to go between the two.
Always love a good challenge.

Washington Steelhead Essay

Where it all begins, provided the mountain has healthy snow pack and solid even temperature through-out the summer the Klickitat can be a worthy adversary for steelhead and some chinook salmon from mid to late Aug through fall.
Mary with breaks the ice and joins the steelhead club. Her hook set was on cue and deadly this trip,
no fish escaped her. All the other boats hated being behind us.
On of the many cookie cutter chinooks that came to the fly. This fish was one of the more colored or "turned" ones. They were still no push overs, our little 8wt. there all they could handle. The fresher ones were a hoot, as they would jump and cartwheel in the deeper holes.
Mary with the rod bent to the cork. The Hatch reels were a dream to fish with as drags were a smooth as butter, so glad we them all with us,

The river was stunning around every bend, we had the fortune to fish roughly 50 miles of it, really beautiful, especially the upper end.
Knuckle Buster

Another great trip for Floatfisher, added another good number of Steelhead to the overall count.
Very happy with my endevours into this realm as many do not have the good fortune to catch the fish I have in the short time. I thank my lucky stars.  So beautiful, so powerful.
Our fine guide Aaron O'Leary waiting and watch Mary work her first Steelhead , not saying anything to either of us, not to jinx it. It worked. Thanks Aaron.

Rail In'

Thanks to our good friend Joe Willuaer for talking us to chasing after these damn steelhead. Although we are only pure novices, the chase is addicting, the reward even better. For three days I could not whip this grin off Mary's face, as it was only 8 hours previous she had railed and landed her first Steelhead.
A new river, some new fish for Ms. Floatfisher to rail on. This king measures in at over
42" , and somewhere over 30#'s.  Quite a fight after just snapping a new Sage Method on the hole above on fish slightly smaller. River was loaded with fish moving up the river along with some real
nice steelhead.  More to come.

Fishing Signs

Mary and I took a wrong channel while floating a week ago, and ended up in a strange place.
All the sudden we were czech nymphing, and in big trouble. Always obey your local fishing regulations.

Another River, Another Locale

Spokane, was the destination on this fishing map this week, as we we had a seeking
to attend. However Floatfisher, does not leave nor plan a trip without packing the rods .
We could not attend a wedding and not fish. That #$%^&*&^ crazy.
Home of the RedBand Trout, plus a few others.
Mary surveying the Spokane River for the next run. Caddis coming off.
Beautiful riffle and runs everywhere you look.
One of our favorite hangouts when we visit Spokane, great atmosphere, art work
service and you can't beat the name of the place. If your ever in the neighborhood,
check it out.

Trading Post Peak

The beautiful morning colors of Trading Post Peak. This is typically a favorite hangout of the Rocky Mountain sheep in the area.

Streamer Eater

Fall seems to bring out the best in browns, their colors, their aggressive posture, and the fantastic setting of the river. The brown above is your typical streamer eater, a little larger fish, very aggressive in nature, and absolutely inhaled the fly. Today we solute you, Streamer Eater.

Crazy Fall Spots

Fall brings on the Crazy Spots of the brown trout, this on captured on one of our favorite
rivers was hard to not to capture with the bright red spots. It was crazy, because normally
everything is always orange or black.
