I Am A Cobbler TOO

New shoes were gifted to Mary and I this winter, allowing us to have a pair of "cleated" boots on
a permanent basis. It certainly makes it nice to have your boots set up with cleats all the time. No more slipping and sliding, at least when it is not self induced. The Simms Alumibites are money, easy to instal, durable, do not knock out , and get stickier the more chewed up they get.
In preparation for Forks, the cobbler went to work and installed both set of boots with new studs, Job One done.

29 Degrees NOLA by Catch 1 Films

29 Degrees NOLA from Catch 1 Films on Vimeo.
Having now visited this fabulous area, and experienced the mystical spell these
fish will cast upon you, 29 NOLA only made me yearn to be standing back on casting
platform scanning for shadows or tails as we pole the banks of the marsh.
Take the time to start your morning out with your cup of coffee and enjoy this nice
short from Catch 1 Films.

HUGE Saturday Event

Well maybe in my own mind. I have been asked again by Charlie to join
his list of weekly tiers to share wisdom and new patterns to those who do love fly tying.
I will again try to bluff my way through another year, by tying some of my favorites and even new
patterns too amaze those that show up.

The festivities start at 11:00 - 1:00 , all are welcome.

Had the opportunity to watch a fateful weekend of football and experiment and test some new patterns, and prep a little for my tying demonstration at Charlies Flybox ned Saturday morning. Come one come all, Fishing will be limited and NO football to distract you.
Every great artist has there pallet of paints, I would call this "mine", as I have my mat of misc. beads and hooks at the ready, when a new idea or concept comes into my mind.
The top of the bench, candle, ash tray and other items become the holding area's for the concept and "idea" flies. Currently the top is over flowing, it is now time to get out and test them, catch fish, and see what needs tweaking...

Date with a HOH

When you have a date with a HOH, the Bogachiel and Sol Duc, to catch a couple steelhead you want to look good for the big day. Well that might be a little far fetched, thing is my feet and crotch were leaking after the last trip to the Deschutes, and one better have your shit in order if your spending the week chasing steelhead on the OP in February. If you have not been there , it is known to rain just a little bit this time of year, and a little chilly with the humidity.

And after spending my time slipping and falling on Deschutes, I want a pair of boots I can keep studs / spikes in full-time. The prince will also have new slippers for the trip. If you have not seen the new Simms Headwater wading boots, they are really nice. Very supportive, but not overly high on the ankle, very wide for the person with a larger foot, but they only go to size 14, surprisingly light weight.

" Flip "

Yeti has been putting out some nice shorts as of late, along with Engler and Los Padres
I really like the storyline on "Flip". I do not wish to quit and guide, however, it would be nice to
put the stresses of life behind for year or two and see the different parts of the country or world.
Fishing and being on the water does take you to another place, at least it does for me, it transforms me.

Denver Fly Fishing Show

So Christmas is over, the lights and tree are all stowed away till next year. New Years was celebrated and brought in with the best of them. The first of January alway marks the kick of of the Fly Fishing Shows, starting in Denver.
Usually the rivers of the west are all ice covered or blowing slushy ice till mid-day, most lodge owners, shops and guides take this time to ski, travel or guide in the warm climates of Mexico, Florida or South America if lucky.
The kick off are the various fly fishing shows, outdoor shows and flyfishing Video tours that make the rounds.

This weekends stroll around the Denver Merchandising Mart was not much different from others, however, the convention center had considerably more vendor booths than prior years. Noticeable, were the amount of manufactures that were present to show there wears and support the shops that were present and selling. Nice to see.

Some of the Vendors and Folks that were impressive to me:

The team from Beulah makes some fantastic fly rods, especially their two handers.
Very much worth of a look and purchase if you are not familiar with them. The staff and ambassadors are top notch.

You are all aware that I am a "Finatic", so I do not have to tout these reels any, or won't only
have to say they now make custom colors that will match our Adipose. Yes, will be purchasing a new reel to match the boat.

Sight Line Provisions
Made in Texas
The gentleman and company was brand new this year and appeared to be making
a strong impression on the entire group. His booth was crowded every time I walked by and tried to get close, finally when I made it in, I found out ,why all the hubbub. Pretty damn cool leather / metal
fishing jewelry / accessories for both Men and Women.

There were some "Mega Booths" this year by Trouts, Front Range Anglers and Minturn Anglers,
Partnering with many of the vendors of the show to offer everything under the sun, with some great specials and just gear for sale.

As Mary and I are gearing up for another trip to chase Steel, we were in the market for some wading boots with studs and Mary needed waders. Usually not the place to walk around and try on waders as the dressing area's and sitting area's are far and few. It is no surprise that women's wader are very uniques, in both fit and sizing. After 8 different pairs, both mens and women's , success was had thanks to the fine owners of Minturn Anglers. My lady is happy and taken care of , I therefore and happy. Mary will be warm as she spends Valentines Day in Forks, WA chasing steel.

The last booth that is present year after year, but always a welcome sight is Enrico Piglisi Products.
I always go on a mini shopping spree at this booth because of the huge selection of these brushes and colors, there are no shops in Colorado that carry them all. It is nice to see the colors and materials.
A couple of new additions to my tying arsenal:
EP Steel Egg - various colors
3" Sparkle Brush
3/4" Shrimp Dubb - various colors
1.5" Senyo Chromatic Brush
1.5" Minnow Head Brush - various colors

Oh, and maybe a trip to Alaska for Steelhead in October,

Damn Steelhead.........

Catching Up

Sometimes you just have to have a little pitstop to see how the fishing is for the other. Stopping to jaw-jack, brag or hear about the one that got away is all in a day's float trip. A float down the river with great friends is also a day to be cherished. A beer, cigar, laughs then dinner and camp fire to top it off.
Oh I can't wait will its time to get out in the shorts and sandals again.
