Dog Days of Early Summer are Here

New fires are starting every other day, temperatures are soaring near the century mark each day and water levels are at levels not seen since 2002 or prior. Yet, if you respect the fish and get our early, I mean early, there is some good fishing to be had. The bug life on all rivers is amazing right now with all checking in and being account for. One should not be nymphing if you can avoid it. We have all winter and spring. Way to fun to see sipping and rising fish.

Even our 4 legged friends need to cool off, in this heat.

"Tail of Sunset" by Catch 1 Films

Take a gander at "Tails of Sunset", the music and video is very nice.
I like the short story protrayed, and close-up shots of the tailing reds.
As we  struggle with our fires burning all around the state, a video like
this takes your mind off things for just a little bit.

New Sage One Flyrod-

Been spending a lot of windshield time driving the Colorado and Wyoming territory as of late
with work. Lots of great sights and water (lack of water to pass) however, the sights are aways
great. On the agenda this week, Gillette, Casper and Cheyenne, oh yes and Colorado Springs
and Pueblo.

All work and no toys makes Jack a dull boy, so Ms. Floatfisher was nice enough to spring for a
new Sage One rod.  What a great lady. We needed to try something new, upgraded the 5 wt.. Will save the big guns for a Scott though. Now I am working on a new boat, might have to work extra hard for
that. Might have to put on the charm.

Road Trip-

Had to put in some long hours this week with work and cover a few miles around the state. In doing
so I had the opportunity to see some of the states great watersheds, visit a few fine flyshops and sample
some of the great foods.

Sunday afforded me the opportunity to drive the Colorado River and see what the river looks like at the 450 cfs. level, and it is not good. We need some rain and release of water in the big ditch. It is very low
and really only running in the main channel. Lots of evidence of moss growing due to low flows
and warming temperatures.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch with KK at the world famous KK's BBQ at Rancho Del Rio. Sample a "few" ribs and spicy polish, well a couple of Modelo's to wash it all down with.

Next was drive up to Steamboat to see the Yampa, Elk and West Elk. Of all the times not to have
a rod in the truck, this was one. Sunday was the second day of the Green Drakes arrival to the area,
and fish were going crazy. Water levels were dropping but in very nice wadeable condition, actually Excellent. You had better get there soon. In addition, lots of caddis in and around the water and fish
responding well.

The next visit was to the Grand Junction, Rifle, Eagle area. Wow, the lower Colorado is in fantastic
shape but low for this time of year. Running its normal Colorado green shade. Very few boats on the water and no wade fisherman seen. Conditions are prime.

Had dinner with the Colonel S. last night on Eagle. Again the water is dropping , but for the time being
it looks and is fishing fantastic. Caddis everywhere. Flows at 550 currently.

Had on of the better dinners of recent memories at Old Kentucky Restaurant in Eagle, a new local in the Eagle scene offering a nice beer and whiskey/ scotch selection.
Not to mention one hell of a Fried Chicken and Waffle dinner.

Cheers to everyone. Get out and fish now.

Hit River Bottom this Weekend

Holy Toledo, it is only the 2nd weekend away from the river and fishing since March and
it might do me in. Having to work through a company wide computer conversion this weekend.
Although the Friday evening portion went well, Ms. Floatfisher and I felt awkward not
sitting next to the river have a G/T or PBR.

Rest assured, Floatfisher will be back in action next weekend.

"2500 Miles and Counting" by Leap Frog Films

Found the neat video over on ChiWulff a while back and thought I would share about
a fish biologist, John McMillan will is documenting his study of Pacific Salmon by
swimming with rivers and streams.  Take a peak at this short of "2500 Miles and Counting".

Some of only fish and complain about it, this gentleman is truly dedicated. Thank you!

Sunday Morning

Water was up yesterday and the fish acclimated to the change nicely. They were finely in the
nice summer lies just lazily sipping them all day long.
 The chubby nabs another victim.

"Floatfisher" swag arrived last week, and the big guy was the fashion model.
