Crazy Small Thread Midges

Although my preference is not to fish these small flies, they can be extremely productive in the right waters, and by right, I mean most all waters. Simple to tie, most beginners will tie hundreds of these, just to get the principles of thread control, ribbing and whip finishing down.

you just need too.

IS IT FISHING TIME?

It must be, the boat is back from it winter tune-up at Inflatable Technologies, they got the pinhole lead in the floor. New camera dry box is currently being built by Down River this week for the little Fatboy. That can only mean one thing. Fishing next week if the weather holds up. Its about F@#$I%^ time. Ready to have that first trout on the end of the line.
Our kids are never so well behaved for their school pictures. Bright and shiny, so pretty
Time to bring some brown and rainbow faces to the boat with the new winter ties. Geeked to give them a try. New gear is purchased, fly boxes organized, reels with new flylines, I would say Game On.
Bring on the fish.

Late Winter Fishing- Midge Style

I don't like to fish the small stuff very much, but is is very effective this time of the year. The nice thing
about these flies is the ease factor. You can pump them out like no tomorrow.

First Fish of the New Year

Breaking new barriers for the Floatfisher household for 2013, as we join the Carp rage. Mary rings in
February with a her first South Platte Carp. We decided to take the February Carp special up with Colorado Skies Flyshop, and learn how to fish the South Platte River right in down town Denver.
What a hoot. The fish are big and powerful even in the cold water, can't imagine what it would be like in warm weather when they really run!

Ms. Floatfisher hooked up.

Kick ass scales of the carp.

Great Saturday at Charlie's Flybox

Like to give a big shout out to Charlie, Ross and Dave for asking me to tie at the shop this past Saturday, what a blast. I would also like to thank all the gracious customer and friends that came to see me tie and share some of my favorite and new patterns.

Flavor of the day was caddis and stonefly patterns, as that is the table fare on the Arkansas River
Floatfisher at work, making sure I don't cut the thread.

ALASKA

ALASKA from HARLEY REED on Vimeo.
Came across this nice short film by Harley Reed on the Kanetok River in Alaska. Shot in Black n White, stellar music to accompany, this film chronicles a guides summer in Alaska. As Mrs. Floatfisher and I ponder floating this river next summer on our own, it brings great future thoughts. Sit back and enjoy your morning cup of joe, or your evening scotch.
